Here’s more about the role and what we’re looking for; 

We are looking to appoint a Consultant Anaesthetist at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton, this post is based at Queen’s Hospital Burton with job planned lists at the Royal Derby Hospital site.

The successful candidate will be required to provide high quality, professional anaesthetic services for a broad range of surgical specialties and will be encouraged to develop his/her special interests. The candidate should understand the importance of teamwork and possess excellent communication skills.

The appointed post-holder will join a team of 82 consultants of which 23 are based at Queen’s Hospital Burton including this post (of which 17 are General and Obstetric Consultant Anaesthetists and 6 are Critical Care Consultants with a separate dedicated on-call) and are supported by 13 specialty doctors and 12 trainees.

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton offers the following surgical specialties: General Surgery (including colorectal and breast), Orthopaedics & Trauma, Obstetrics, Gynaecology, ENT, Max-fax, Vascular, Ophthalmic, Urology, Paediatrics, Dental and Day case surgery.

The post-holder will be expected to take part in a 1:16 non-resident on-call rota covering general and obstetric emergencies.

The anaesthetic service is spread throughout operating theatres in four different locations: Royal Derby Hospital, Queen’s Hospital, Treatment Centre and Sir Robert Peel Hospital, Tamworth.

Please note:

  • Applicants must be on the Specialist Register of the GMC and hold a licence to practice, or be eligible for inclusion on the register within six months of the interview date.
  • Appointment to this 10 PA post that includes a commitment to a 1:16 On-call rota is subject to the provisions of the Terms and Conditions of the new consultant contract (2003).
  • Further conditions have been implemented by the Trust that have been negotiated with the Medical and Dental Local Negotiating Committee. The national salary scale for Consultant appointments will apply (YC72).
