Blood Transfusion Team manager and Quality Lead – Chesterfield Royal Hospital Site (Derbyshire Pathology)

Derbyshire Pathology is at the beginning of an exciting journey, as a newly created network between the pathology laboratories at Chesterfield Royal Hospital and Royal Derby Hospital. We are seeking to appoint a Blood Transfusion Team Manager and Quality Lead at the Chesterfield Royal Hospital site.

The Chesterfield Royal Hospital site is a busy district general hospital supporting a 24/7 service that covers a large emergency department and a clinical haematology service, alongside intensive care and general medical wards and a busy Obstetrics department. Our modern Blood Transfusion laboratory is well equipped with 2 x Biorad IH1000 analysers, a Bloodhound electronic blood tracking system and Tutela temperature monitoring.
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, proactive and conscientious individual with the ability to manage the day-to-day running of the Transfusion laboratory.

As Blood Transfusion Team Manager you will provide professional knowledge, guidance, leadership and training to Specialist Biomedical Scientists, Biomedical Scientists and Pathology support staff.
You will work with the Blood Bank Manager to ensure that all areas of the laboratory comply with all relevant current and future legislation, complying with BCSH guidelines and the requirements of BSQR, ISO15189:2012 and MHRA.

The successful candidate will have HCPC-registration as a Biomedical Scientist, with evidence of Continued Professional Development and significant exposure to Blood Transfusion science. Demonstrable post-registration experience as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist and a Masters degree in Biomedical Science, Fellowship of the IBMS or equivalent experience is a requirement of this post and candidates must be able to demonstrate at least one of these criteria. 

We have full UKAS accreditation to ISO 15189:2012 and as quality lead the candidate will be expected to continue to improve our quality standards, with a flexible and innovative approach as a manager working closely with other quality leads and the management team, contributing towards the Derbyshire Pathology vision and driving integration of the service.
Experience of quality management systems and processes is desirable, as this role will have lead responsibility for the day-to-day managing of quality in Blood Bank and will be required to uphold the quality culture and practices of the department. However, full training and development will be given if required.

Experience of a variety of IT systems is required; however the competent use of Microsoft Excel and Word, Qpulse and iLab will be advantageous.
Regular communication across the Chesterfield and Derby sites is also essential to drive integration of the Derbyshire Pathology service going forwards.
