Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is responsible for the Royal Derby Hospital and the London Road Community Hospital incorporating the Derby Medical School which is run in partnership with the University of Nottingham. Rated Good by the Care Quality Commission in 2015 following their inspection where they noted some outstanding practice and innovation, we deliver quality patient care and in recent years have achieved high standards which have put us amongst the cleanest and safest hospitals in the country. 

The Role: 

Over the coming 10 months, the IT Technical Services at Burton Hospital NHS Foundation Trust start to be insourced and provided by the IT Technical Services at Derby Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This is a significant piece of work which will involve splitting Burton Hospital from their current IT services and joining them to the IT Services at Derby, whilst maintaining full services.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Server Support person, who has excellent knowledge of supporting all aspects of the WINTEL server infrastructure in a large organisation, who will be working on the integration of the IT systems across 2 acute Hospitals.

As a Senior Technical Officer you will be working closely with other members of the Server team at both Derby and Burton to design, build and implement a new Windows AD domain, as well as working on the insourcing of key IT services. You should be able to demonstrate an excellent technical knowledge of key technologies such was Windows Server 2008/2012, SQL, Active Directory, SAN Technology, VM environments (Hyper V and VMWare) and a wide range of other technologies used in large organisations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support the operation of first and second line IT support and maintains the Trust’s systems to ensure seamless and continuous provision of accurate information.
  2. Implementation, support and maintenance of the Trust’s Servers and IT Systems.  
  3. Specification and implementation of the relevant parts of the Trust’s IM & T Security Policy, and ensures that all computer security procedures are followed at all times, to maintain confidentiality and the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
  4. Maintain IT systems within the Trust to ensure that systems meet the business and clinical needs of the users and organisation, e.g. maintains the Trust IT Systems, servers, virus protection software. Maintains agreed back-up procedures.
  5. Meet agreed service levels and response rates, records all work carried out on the HEAT helpdesk system. Ensures that the helpdesk are kept aware of faults, progress and scheduled maintenance.
  6. Develop relationships with end users and clients to provide timely identification and understanding of user requirements and enhance IM&T’s ability to respond to them.
  7. Ensure maximum benefits are achieved from all IT hardware/software by keeping up to date on advances in this field.
  8. Make sure all procedures for maintenance/change control of systems have been documented.
  9. Carry out data transfers between systems to ensure that data is made available in an accurate and timely manner. Documents and maintains systems to ensure that data is captured in the most appropriate manner, allowing reporting at a variety of levels.
  10. Maintain and develop relationships with external service providers and organisations to ensure the continued support of the Trust’s systems.
  11. Liaise and assist Network Support with Firewall, Browsing and Virus protection and the transport protocols between PCs, Servers and switches.
  12. Participate in the IT On-Call Rota and work across all sites within the Derby and Burton Trusts.
  13. Maintain a register of all servers including their backup regime. Ensures that these servers have sound backup systems and that periodically they are recovered as part of the Disaster Recovery plan.
  14. Provide specialist assistance in the development of plans to maintain and increase the effectiveness of the Trust’s IT systems. This is underpinned by consulting users to ensure their needs are taken into account on all new and current systems.

We are looking for a self-driven, enthusiastic person who has had experience of support the Server infrastructure large IT department within a busy organisation, and who also has the ability to make a significant impact.
