Emergency Department

Teaching Fellow/OOPE

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Emergency Department of the Royal Derby Hospital. 

We are looking to recruit a dynamic and motivated individuals with an interest in medical education to fulfil a dual clinical and teaching role.  The intention for this post is 10 sessions (40 hours) with a 50:50 clinical:teaching split.  Funding for the educational element is part of the nationwide SIFT initiative.

The post would be suitable for someone in or at the end of Core Training, prior to a ST4 application or someone with the appropriate experience who wants a flexible job plan with an educational element, it would also be suitable for a one year OOPE. 4 years post-registration experience including 6 months Emergency Medicine is essential.

The Derby campus of the Nottingham University Medical School specialises in Graduate Entry Medicine (GEM) trainees.  We currently have a mixture of these and “traditional” undergraduate students from the Nottingham site.  Students attend the Emergency Department in both their third and final year for standard curriculum requirements.  In addition, we provide an opportunity for a Special Study Module and are actively engaged in Medical Education Research.

The post holder will be encouraged to participate in this research as well as have the opportunity to pursue medical education qualifications (e.g. MSc), which the Trust would part fund.

This job will provide ample opportunity for study and the department has an excellent record of supporting success in postgraduate exams.

The Senior Medical staff consists of 18 Consultants and an Associate Specialist.  The Middle Grade staff consists of 5 Specialist Registrars, 24 NCCGs, 2 Teaching Fellows, 3 Junior Clinical Fellows, 3 CT3s, 14 CT2s/GPVTS/F2s, 3 F1s, a Matron, 10 ACPs, 1 Nurse Educator and 1 Educator for medical students.  Advanced nursing practice provides a team of Emergency Nurse Practitioners (ENPs) with cover from 0800 to 0200.  Consultants have clinical sessions each weekday until 2400 and at the weekend.

The Hospital is a Three Star Foundation Trust.
