The successful candidates will be offered posts on a variety of wards and departments with flexible contracts available to meet the needs of work life balance.

Puffin ward is a 17 bedded emergency surgery and general medical ward caring for children from the age of 2 years with a wide range of conditions.
The ward has a dedicated teenage area supported by Derby County football club and cares for a significant number of adolescents who have safeguarding requirements. The ward also has a day case facility from 9-5 week days which provides a variety of services such as venepuncture, cannulation, sweat testing, sedation for procedures and botulinum clinics

Derby Neonatal Intensive Care unit is part of the Trent Perinatal Central Newborn Network and provides medical care to sick and premature infants with service provision for 7 intensive care and HDU cots and 17 special care cots in our state of the art facilities.

Our dedicated Children’s Emergency Department offers a holistic service for children 0-18 years accepting GP referrals who require a paediatric review, self referrals and referrals from other primary health care establishments including 999 emergencies. We are a close team of multi disciplinary professionals who strive to provide the ultimate service pathway for children and their families. In 2014, an exciting new development was implemented; a new observation unit was built to accommodate children who require further care but not necessarily an admission to the Children’s hospital. This has reduced our admission rates and improved children’s pathways.

Our Community Children Nurses (CCN) support and empower children, families and other carers to have the knowledge, skills and confidence to care for their complex health needs in the community. The CCN care for over 1000 children and young people with long term conditions supported by specialist nurses in Epilepsy, Respiratory medicine, Palliative, Complex Care and Diabetes.

The Children’s Outpatient Department offers 40,000 appointments each year in a range of clinics for children and young people from birth to 18 years old. It is a dedicated paediatric outpatient department with experienced and friendly children’s nursing staff, play therapist and a play area. Depending on the clinic, a team of doctors, specialist, speech and language therapists, community nurse or other members of the team provide outpatient support. Our team is experienced in trauma, orthopaedics and specialist plastering techniques.

We are incredibly proud of what we do here at Derby Children’s Hospital, delivering family centred care where patient experience is always at the forefront of our agenda. With this in mind, we would like to welcome any motivated, flexible and committed paediatric and adult nurses, to compliment the established teams in delivering high quality evidenced based care to this diverse group of patients.

We will help you to achieve this through a wide range of in-house study days and training events, competency packages with allocated mentors to support you. The Trust also has an extensive leadership programme to ensure our staff developed to reach their potential. Access to external courses is positively encouraged.

The Trust were among the first to be awarded NHS foundation trust status and have a £333 million hospital on the site of the royal derby hospital which provides the very latest in modern healthcare as featured recently on the ITV documentary ‘super hospital’.

We employ over 8000 staff and offer benefits such as childcare assistance, an excellent pension scheme and flexible working opportunities.

We have recently been awarded CHKS excellence in A&E award winner 2015, NHS sustainability awards for transport winner 2015 and achieved a good status at the recent CQC inspection.
