There has never been a better time to come and work at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.  The Trust was formed on 1 July 2018 to bring together our five hospitals – in Derby, Burton, Lichfield and Tamworth – to provide the highest quality care to patients across southern Derbyshire and south east Staffordshire.

Join us and help make a real difference to our Trust.

Here’s more about the role and what we’re looking for;

We would like to offer an opportunity for an enthusiastic radiologist who wish to develop and/or continue their career in our departments friendly, harmonious and supportive environment.

Following expansion of our service and merger of the Derby and Burton hospitals Trust, applications are invited for a Consultant Radiologist post in Nuclear Medicine

The Nuclear Medicine department is comprised of three gamma cameras all capable of SPECT two of which are also capable of SPECT/CT. There are plans to order 4th gamma camera.

Nuclear Medicine at the Royal Derby Hospital provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic imaging, approximately 7000-8000 studies a year.

We actively support one of only two Parkinson Foundation centres of excellence within the UK with our I-123 Ioflupane (DaTSCAN) SPECT/CT.

We were amongst the first centres to introduce Tektroyd imaging within UK in 2008 and one of the first adopters of VQ SPECT in October 2009.

A Nuclear Medicine technologist/radiographer-led stress service is in place for myocardial perfusion imaging whilst Nuclear Medicine scientists assist in the primary reporting of EDTA GFRs, MUGA and myocardial perfusion imaging.   We have dedicated space within our new build hospital for a future PET/CT Centre. We are exploring opportunities to develop this.

Currently our patients are imaged at Nottingham City InHealth PET/CT with images being forwarded on to our PACS and reported in Nottingham.  Similar occurs for Queens Hospital Burton with patients being imaged at Nottingham City InHealth or UHB / Alliance Medical Limited centre who would be managed within our cancer network.

Since merger some of our senior nuclear medicine technologists work across both the Royal Derby and Queen’s Hospital Burton sites.  We currently provide an element of emergency radionuclide imaging teleradiology reporting for Queen’s Hospital Burton. Their non-urgent work is currently outsourced.   A flexible contribution to the general radiological workload of the department is expected of the successful candidate.

The University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust have a funded establishment of 43 Consultant Radiologists. In addition to this we have 9 Speciality Registrars on rotation from Nottingham and Leicester, which will increase to 12 by September 2019. Consultant Radiologists are expected to cover general radiographic reporting as well as their sub-speciality and their work will be supported by a large cross site team of 12, reporting plain film, CT and MRI radiographers.

The post attracts 10 PAs (8.5 DCC + 1.5 SPA) but there is opportunity for additional PAs for dedicated SIFT funded teaching.

We are keen to promote flexible and part time working, which will be facilitated by home workstations. We can work together to achieve a mutually beneficial job plan which enhances the work life balance of the successful candidates.

We are now a large cross site imaging department employing approximately 650 staff offering all imaging modalities. The Royal Derby site was the first imaging department in the East Midlands to obtain ISAS accreditation (2016) and this has been recently renewed. There has been a recent imaging equipment refurbishment  programme which is part of a Managed Equipment Service scheme leaving us with modern up to date scanners –  8 MRI  (one  3T) and 6 CT (five 128 slice). There are 5 fluoroscopy rooms including 2 dedicated interventional suites and a hybrid theatre will be operational  in 2019.  The Trust Imaging Department also provides imaging services at seven community hospitals throughout Derbyshire and East Staffordshire.

The merger of Derby and Burton Hospitals occurred in July 2018 forming the 7th largest Trust in the country. The University Hospital of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust now serves a community of approximately 1 million people in Derbyshire and  East Staffordshire and provides over 1500 acute beds.  Derby obtained a ‘good’ CQC rating in 2016 and has a graduate entry medical school allied to the University of Nottingham. There are expanding academic departments in medicine, paediatrics, Obstetrics & gynaecology, rehabilitation and surgery providing opportunity for research and teaching. We’re also nationally recognised for volunteering, which gives our Trust a warm and friendly environment.

Derby and Burton offer everything from cosmopolitan city life to outstanding countryside in the Peak district of Derbyshire and have excellent national and international transport links. The region has great housing options ranging from picturesque villages to the city, and for families there are a host of exceptional state and private schools. For sports fans the region has the world-famous Donnington Park motor racing circuit, Derbyshire County Cricket Club and the former English Champions Derby County Football Club.
